Buffalo, NY (July 31, 2019) – This month’s networking event for health care professionals will feature an evening to celebrate a night on the boardwalk at the Larkin Square Boardwalk. Please join us on Thursday, August 22 from 4:30-6:30PM.

Once a month, select member agencies of Network in Aging collaborate to develop a themed “Network with the Network” event.  These complimentary events are designed for members to meet regularly in a variety of settings and are also open to area professionals who want to learn more about the sponsoring organizations and the Network.

North Tonawanda, NY (May 28, 2019) –  This month’s networking event for professionals will feature a guided backstage tour of the historic Riviera Theater on Wednesday, June 5 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at 67 Webster Street.  Guests will enjoy musical entertainment by the students of Cardinal O’Hara high school, raffles and plenty of food and refreshments. Network in Aging presents “Anxiety & Depression in Older Adults: What We Know & Available Mental Health Resources”

The Network in Aging of WNY, Inc was founded in 1981 by a network of people committed to improving the quality of life for older persons in Western New York. The Network is a non-profit, voluntary corporation which brings together individuals and organizations involved in aging and long term care. Our mission is to help our members by providing opportunities for resource exchange, professional development and interdisciplinary collaboration through networking events, educational programs, strategic partnerships and promoting public awareness of the organization and its mission.

You are cordially invited to attend an educational event on Tuesday, May 14th from 12-4:30. The Network’s Educational Committee has organized this event called “Anxiety & Depression in Older Adults.”  Lunch and networking from 12:00PM -1:00PM.

This educational event features Dr. Mark Gunther, PhD, Psychologist at ECMC as our speaker. He has extensive experience working with and treating mental health disorders in older persons and will provide an overview of depression, anxiety and related disorders and how this impacts the lives of older adults.

Following Dr. Gunther’s presentation a panel of 9 local service providers will address the mental health services they provide, and how to access them for you clients and patients. Kathy Kanaley from the Center for Elder Law and Justice will be the moderator.

Lockport Native Becomes New President of the Network in Aging

Lockport Native Becomes New President of the Network in Aging

Lockport, NY (December 14, 2018) – Angela Blackley has been approved as the new incoming 2019-2021 President for the Network in Aging of WNY. The Network is celebrating 38 years as the premiere, non-profit networking group for professionals involved in the field of aging serving the eight WNY counties. In her new role, Blackley will be responsible to oversee the day to day operations of the network and its eight working committees.

“I am very excited to take on this leadership role for the Network,” says Blackley, “I have been providing assistance to the aging population for over 30 years in my career and am ready to continue and enhance the work the Network does and opportunities we provide our dedicated members. Through them, we are able to continue to provide vital supports for those involved in the aging process throughout the entire community.”

Blackley was born and raised in Lockport and received her Associates in Nutrition and Food Management from Erie Community College. She currently works as the early Memory Loss Coordinator for the Dale Association in Lockport. There she provides therapeutic intervention, social day and programming for those affected by dementia. She is a certified Powerful Tools for Caregivers Instructor and teaches a six-week, county sponsored program that assists caregivers of adults with chronic conditions. She is also a Transitions of Care Coordinator and helps families with loved ones being discharged from the hospital to make sure sufficient services are in place for them to have a successful transition back at home.

In the past she has been an active member of the State Wide Senior Action Council of New York, served as past president of the New York State Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs, been the secretary and VP of Professional Development for the Board of Directors for the Network in Aging, and is currently vice president of CASE (Coalition of Agencies in Services for the Elderly). She served as the WNY delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging in Washington, DC.
